The Egyptian Football Association has officially taken its complaints to FIFA following Egypt’s controversial 3-2 defeat to Argentina. The federation is calling for an investigation into the match officials, claiming that several refereeing and VAR decisions directly impacted the result and ultimately Egypt’s World Cup exit.

The EFA’s complaint names French referee François Letexier and also calls for an investigation into the full officiating team, including the VAR officials. According to the federation, several important decisions went against Egypt, with officials choosing not to review incidents that could have changed the course of the game. The EFA says it wants FIFA to examine the match and take any necessary action if errors are confirmed.

One of the biggest talking points came early in the second half while Egypt was leading 1-0. Mostafa Ziko scored what looked like Egypt’s second goal, but it was ruled out after the referee judged that Marwan Attia had fouled Lisandro Martínez in the build-up. The Egyptian federation believes the decision was incorrect and argues the incident should have been reviewed more carefully.
Another key moment arrived deep into stoppage time when Mohamed Salah went down inside Argentina’s penalty area after a challenge. Egypt appealed for a penalty, but play continued. Moments later, Argentina broke forward on the counterattack, and Enzo Fernández scored the goal that completed Argentina’s 3-2 comeback. The EFA believes the penalty incident should have been reviewed by VAR. It says the decision played a direct role in the final result.
What will FIFA decide regarding Egypt’s complaint?
