5 Iconic Movies That Were Filmed In Egypt

When it comes to historical movies, Egypt has always been a first choice of location for most film makers. This is why most films that were shot in Egypt have only featured the pyramids and the desert.

But in fact, there are lots of movies that were filmed in Cairo’s lively streets, as well as in other cities like Luxor, Aswan, and Fayoum. Here are some of them:

Valley of The Kings, 1954

An American movie starring Robert Taylor and Eleanor Parker. It took place in more than one Egyptian city, including Cairo, Fayoum, Suez. and Luxor. The cast also featured Samia Gamal as a dancer and Rushdy Abaza as a singer.

The Spy Who Loved Me, 1977

Did you know that one of James Bond’s most popular movies was shot in Egypt? Starring Roger Moore, “The Spy Who Loved Me” featured many magnificent Egyptian locations, mainly the pyramids, the Gayer–Anderson Museum, and Ibn Tulun Mosque.

Cairo Time, 2009

Not only was this movie shot in Egypt, it was also named after Cairo! The movie tells the story of a Canadian journalist who gets the chance to discover Cairo with an Egyptian man she grows to love. Both Patricia Clarkson and Alezander Siddiq starred in the movie, and Mona Hala even made an appearance.

City Of Sounds, 2015

Directed by Janek Romero, this German documentary takes place in and is about Cairo. As per its name, the documentary follows the sounds of Cairo: people, prayers, and even the crafts. The film starred the great singer Mohammed Mounir and his lifetime friend Roman Bunka, as well as Fathy Salama and Mariam Saleh. The entire film was based in Cairo’s local streets.

Whatever Lola Wants Lola Gets, 2007

This French movie was starred by Lora Ramsey in the role of “Lola”, who wants to learn belly dancing, so she moves to Egypt and that’s where her adventure begins. Several scenes were shot in Cairo streets like Heliopolis. Local names that made an appearance in the movie include the great actress Maryam Fakhruddin and Hend Sabry.
