Ragheb Alama Faces Ban in Egypt After On-Stage Moment Goes Viral

Lebanese superstar Ragheb Alama is making headlines in Egypt, but not for his music this time. The singer has been temporarily banned from performing in the country following a controversial interaction with fans during his recent concert on the North Coast.

The Syndicate’s Reaction

The Egyptian Musicians’ Syndicate issued the suspension and called him in for questioning after videos from the event began circulating online. In one clip, a young female fan is seen approaching Alama for a selfie and appears to give him a quick kiss—something that sparked a social media storm.

The syndicate’s president, Mostafa Kamel, described the moment as “inappropriate” and said it went against the cultural values and traditions of Egypt. He emphasized that such behavior doesn’t belong on Egyptian stages, especially in a country known for its legendary music icons.

Online reactions came fast and loud. Some criticized the fan, calling her actions disrespectful, while others defended Ragheb, saying he looked genuinely caught off guard.

Ragheb Alama Broke His Silence

As the debate continued in Egypt, Ragheb Alama broke his silence in an interview. He expressed shock over the ban, saying his deep connection with Egypt shouldn’t be reduced to a split-second moment. He also clarified that the video being shared online was taken from a misleading angle. It is giving the false impression that the kiss occurred on the lips, something he says is simply untrue.

“She wasn’t Egyptian; she was a tourist showing her excitement,” he added. Ragheb stressed that he would never turn away fans and that crowd management is the organizers’ responsibility—not his. He concluded by saying the moment didn’t even happen on stage, but rather as he was heading to his car. “I love my fans and always will. I’m not sure what all the fuss is about.”
