If you’re planning your Eid break in Egypt, the government has officially announced the upcoming holiday dates.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decision declaring the Eid Al-Fitr holiday for government employees and public sector workers from Thursday, March 19, 2026, until Monday, March 23, 2026. Work will officially resume on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
This means a long holiday for many employees across the country, giving people plenty of time to celebrate Eid, visit family, and enjoy the festive atmosphere. However, the official first day of Eid Al-Fitr has not been confirmed yet. Like every year, the final announcement will depend on the crescent moon sighting conducted by Dar Al-Iftaa. The moon sighting is expected to take place on the evening of March 19, which will determine whether Eid begins the next day.
So if you’re already planning your Eid outings, gatherings, or even a short getaway, you now have a clearer idea of the holiday schedule. Just keep an eye on the moon sighting announcement for the final confirmation of Eid’s first day. Eid preparations across Egypt usually include family visits, festive meals, and plenty of sweets like kahk. With several days off ahead, make the most of the long break to celebrate the holiday spirit.
