Egypt Becomes First Country In Africa To Perform Robotic Surgery

Egypt’s Ain Shams University executed Egypt’s first robotic surgery at the University’s hospitals yesterday. Teams at the Ain Shams University Hospital were the first to introduce such type of surgeries that helps surgeons in performing delicate and complex operations that may be difficult or impossible using other traditional methods. Therefore, robotic surgery is an excellent alternative to open surgery. It is worth noting that after months of planning, Ain Shams University introduced robotic surgery on patients after completing all the preparations for the operation, as medical staff were trained in several stages and ensured the accuracy of all the steps that the surgery went through, taking a major leap in surgical technology in the country – and region. While the introduction of robotic technology itself is revolutionary in Egypt, this technology has already been used in more than 15,000 surgeries in 30 countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan.
