But it was thanks to brave people like Yehia Abdelaaty that the fires died down and spared what little was left in Australia. <\/p>

Yehia Abdelaaty is an Egyptian man who has been serving as a dedicated firefighter in New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, for the past 17 years. <\/p>

Despite his wife’s objection to his postion, Abdelaaty insists that he is “ready mentally and physically” for the job. <\/p>

“I am not less than any Australian working in the field. If they can do it, I can,\u201d he told BBC News<\/a>. <\/p>
